Energy Saving Ideas

With rising energy costs and our growing concern with reducing our carbon imprint, there has never been a better time to consider energy saving ideas around your home or work space.

  • If you have an electrical hot water system, you could save money by switching to an off-peak tarriff. With an off-peak tarriff your system will only heat water during off-peak times when power is cheaper. Ergon customers can save up to 50% on their future running costs with Tariff 31, and up to 30% with Tarriff 33. Plus, with no minimum monthly fee on Tarriff 31 or 33, customers will only pay for what they use.
  • Have you considered switching to LED lighting? You could be saving money each electricity bill! Most homes could be reducing the amount of energy they use on lighting by 50% or more. LEDs are an energy-efficient alternative to your downlights...and they will last up to 50 as long as an incandescent bulb.
  • Make sure your fridge seal is tight. A leaky seal will cause your fridge to consume more energy.
  • Did you know it takes more electricity to boil a kettle than to run a ceiling fan for an hour?  Only boil as much water as you need.
  • Air-conditioners are known electricity guzzlers that can use more power during the summer than your hot water system does for the year! Ensure your home or office is kept cool the smart way with effective ceiling fans installed throughout.
  • Switch off equipment such as computers and printers when you go away on holiday or in times of non-use. Most computers have an energy saving mode which will automatically turn your computer off after being inactive for a set amount of time.
