Small-scale Technology Certificates - STCs

When you install a small-scale installations of solar panels you create Small-scale Technology Certificates, better known as STCs. These are an electronic form of currency created by the Renewable Energy  (Electricity) Act 2000. The size of your system determines the number of STCs you are assigned. The price on STCs changes according to conditions.

You can be paid for your STCs by either:

  • Assigning your STCs to Mission Solar and Electrical at the time of purchasing your system for a point of sale discount that is based on current market rates. We will take care of all the paperwork!
  • Alternatively, you can create the STCs yourself by finding a buyer and then selling and transferring them in the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Registry. For more information, contact the Clean Energy Regulator.
